Castelvecchio was one of the oldest and important Castle of the Cavalcanti family, hence the name, that means old castle
As from 1960, Castelvecchio is a family-run estate producing wine and extra virgin olive oil. Nowadays the farm is run by Filippo and Stefania, brother and sister. The property extends over 73 hectares, including 30 hectares of vineyards and 20 hectares of olive groves. The vineyards are located at an altitude of between 250 and 350 meters above sea level.
Tasting notes:
Made with 90% of Sangiovese and 10% of Merlot
Color: intense ruby red
Aromas: very intense, with hints of ripe fruit and dark flowers, light spiciness.
Taste: Moderately dry but soft and with good persistence, velvety tannins with bottle aging.
Pairing: It goes well with any dish and mainly with red meats and medium-flavored dishes

Fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel for 18 days, slow maceration with daily pumping over and gentle pressing which allow a high extraction; aging in small french oak barrels for 12 months and further refinement in bottle for 6 months.
