Querceto di Castellina Winery
Querceto di Castellina is an ancient winery dating back from 13th century, in the heart of Chianti Classico. It is very close to Castellina in Chianti, an old village, as well.
Located almost 500 meters above sea level, Querceto di Castellina winery was restructured by the wine maker’s father Giorgio, in the early 1960s, and now it is a family-run model, every family member has an important role for the company. Jacopo is the winemaker, Filippo, his brother, takes care of the hospitality of the farmhouse. Jacopo’s wife is in charge of promoting the wines, while Laura, Jacopo’s mother, is an excellent chef for those who are fortunate to have lunch here on the winery after a great Florence wine tasting tour.
The winery is famous for its quality, organic wines and we have selected three wines from their production:
Livia, the white wine:
A blend of two French varieties, Viognier and Roussanne, rather unusual to find in Tuscany. The wine is aged in Tonneaux, french oak barrels of 500 liters, for 8 months, and then bottled.
The production is limited to a few thousand bottles and it is a wine rich in aromas such as mimosa, magnolia, elderberry, cedar, pineapple, white apple; in the mouth balanced and full-bodied. In other words, one bottle leads to another… especially in the Summer.
Furtivo, the rosè wine:
A wine made with 100% of San Giovese grape, a wine with rose, iris, mediterranean herbs aromas, fresh, sapid and versatile. It is good for many pairing occasions.
Sei, Gran Selezione:
A 100% of their best San Giovese grapes; a selected wine aged in new french oak barrels for at least 18 months. They produce this wine only in the best years. It is an intense, ruby red wine that has velvety, cherry and oriental spicy notes; an elegant and full-body wine. The ideal wine for great occasions!
